Talented Everton Youngster Henry Onyekuru To Join Galatasaray On One-Year Loan Deal

New Everton manager Marco Silva has decided to send talented youngster Henry Onyekuru out on loan again in the 2018-19 season, which Turkish giants Galatasaray emerging as his most likely destination before the transfer window slams shut.

The highly-rated Nigerian, who spent last season on loan with Belgian outfit Anderlecht, bizzarely is still in need of a certain amount of playing time before he can secure himself a work permit to play for The Toffees, something both parties want to get sorted before the start of the 2019-20 campaign.

Everton signed Onyekuru in the summer of 2016 after he had bagged an impressive tally of 30 goals in 60 games over two seasons at K.A.S Eupen and he impressed once again at Anderlecht last term.

The 21-year-old scored 10 goals in 28 matches during his time at Anderlecht before suffering an unfortunate knee ligament injury in December that required surgery, meaning he had to return to the UK to undergo rehabilitation and recovery, with Everton stating he’d be out of action for “several months.”

He had hoped to secure that permit last season whilst with the Belgian giants but his injury meant that his campaign was cut short and dashed any hopes of securing that vital work permit – and devastatingly a possible place in Nigeria’s 2018 World Cup squad.

Anderlecht had hoped to be able to take the forward back on loan for this upcoming season but the relationship between the club and Onyekuru soured and the player opted against returning, leaving a gateway open for Galatasaray – arguably an upgrade in club – to swoop for his services.

And now the player’s full attention has turned to Turkey and Galatasaray.

The Super Lig frontrunners announced on Twitter last week that negotiations had begun with Everton for a one-year loan of Onyekuru, and the player is expected to undergo a medical at The Lions in the coming days following a full recovery.

The Blues have begun to ramp up their pre-season preparations as they jetted off to Austria for their annual training camp.

Marco Silva’s squad included all first-team players who have not been on international duty for the World Cup and a number of players who are looking to make the step up from the youth levels – including defender Callum Connolly.

However, the Portuguese boss is hoping to add a couple of new faces to his squad before the start of the Premier League season.

Celtic’s Kieran Tierney is still a top target but talks between the two clubs have cooled off as the Celts begin their Champions League qualification campaign, meaning that a deal is unlikely – especially this summer anyway – as top clubs such as Manchester United continue to keep tabs on his status.

The Blues have also been linked with Barcelona defender Yerry Mina after the Colombian defender impressed with his performances at the World Cup, scoring three times including against England in the round of sixteen.

However, they face competition from clubs across the continent.
